King's Hawaiian Rolls Commercial
A national commercial! Shit, was I excited and pumped I booked this! Cause it was definitely one of those call back auditions where you go into a room with 12 people all scattered around looking at phones, laptops and stacks of papers of god knows what. You do the audition, they give a short note, you do it like that, they say, “ok great, thank you”, and you walk out having no clue if they even looked up from their screens to see!
I BOOKED THAT MOTHER FUCKER!
Well I actually booked a different role than I auditioned for and didn’t find out what my role was until the day of the shoot.
(Cut to the day of the shoot)
I’m feeling great, a little nervous cause I’m not entirely sure what I’m doing today but I’m going to be in a commercial!! I hope the commercial will actually comes out. (Not like some past stuff I done that will never see the light of day. Unless I book, like, Star Wars then all of the sudden all those past projects I’ve never seen are all edited and ready for TMZ!!)
I’m staying calm…
I get put in wardrobe, wait for the producers to double check… and thats when I notice the producers looked a little confused. It seems my character is supposed to be shaved. Not fully shaved, just half shaved…like two face style.
I have just learned what my role in this commercial is.
Am I going to tell them, “no I’d rather not shave my face after you guys have gone through the trouble of booking me, done wardrobe test and put me through hair and make up.”?
Nope, you gotta role with that shit.
So I say, “Yeah! I’m fine with that!” And they escort me back to the trailer to shave me.
The hair and makeup department were amazing and so nice! They gently and quickly shaved half of my face without a single cut! They also had to leave shaving cream on the unshaved portion of my face, to give the appearance I was mid shave for the spot.
The whole experience was great in the end.
I love getting any chance to make people laugh and this definitely got some laughs while shooting. I didn’t let them shave it off at the end of the day, so I could go home and surprise my wife, (who still didn’t know this is what I had to do!) She was definitely surprised!
The commercial played all over the place! My favorite; my sister would see it every morning during a commercial break of Golden Girls. I could not ask for anything more than to be that close to Betty White.
Watch the commercial for yourself below, I hope it brings you a laugh.
